Man jailed for shoplifting offences in High Wycombe
The offences spanned several months
A 34-year-old man from High Wycombe has been sentenced to prison following a string of shoplifting incidents, assaults on police officers, and other offences across the town.
Darren Biggs, of West Wycombe Road, pleaded guilty to four counts of shoplifting, three counts of assaulting a police officer, one count of attempted shoplifting, one count of criminal damage, one count of handling stolen goods, and one count of fraud by false representation.
The offences were heard at High Wycombe Magistrates’ Court on Saturday, 25 October.
Biggs was sentenced to four months in prison and handed a three-year Criminal Behaviour Order. The order prevents him from entering certain retail premises in High Wycombe, including Matalan on Bellfield Road and Sainsbury’s on Oxford Road.
It also bans him from entering any shop or retail premises where he has been issued a banning notice, remaining in any store after being asked to leave, going onto driveways without permission, or touching vehicles without consent.
The offences spanned several months. On 2 August, Biggs shoplifted from Sainsbury’s on Oxford Road. Later that month, on 23 August, he used a victim’s credit card to make fraudulent purchases. On 20 October, he stole items from three separate shops in the town.
Then, on 23 October, he attempted to steal seven bottles of whisky from Sainsbury’s and tried to escape through the ceiling before being arrested.
Following his arrest, Biggs assaulted police officers on three separate occasions.
Investigating officer, PC Bal Primasz, of the Town Centre Neighbourhood Team in High Wycombe, said: “Biggs thought he could go on an offending spree without consequence. He was wrong.
“Every theft from our shops impacts local businesses and the wider community, and we will not tolerate it.
“Our Town Centre Neighbourhood Team is committed to identifying, arresting, and bringing offenders to justice."
