Hertsmere MP appointed Conservative Party Chair

Hertsmere's MP Oliver Dowden has been appointed Minister without Portfolio, Cabinet Office, which is known as Co-Chair of the Conservative Party.

He had held the role of Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport, a position he held since February 2020.

Nadine Dorries, Member of Parliament for Mid Bedfordshire since 2005 has appointed as Olivers replacement for Culture Secretary.

Its part of a Cabinet reshuffle by Prime Minister Boris Johnson today, which was delayed from earlier in the summer.

Education Secretary Gavin Williamson was the first to be axed from Cabinet on Wednesday afternoon, closely followed by Justice Secretary Robert Buckland and Robert Jenrick from housing.

Liz Truss has been appointed new Foreign Secretary, replacing Dominic Raab who is moved to the roles of Justice Secretary, Lord Chancellor and Deputy Prime Minister.

Mr Jenrick's sacking from Cabinet comes after controversy surrounding his unlawful approval of a Tory donor's housing development.

He is replaced by Michael Gove, who becomes Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government, retaining ministerial responsibility for the Union and elections.

Gavin Williamson, who has been sacked as Education Secretary had been under repeated pressure to resign as Education Secretary since his handling of disruption to schools during the pandemic.

Priti Patel remains as Home Secretary while Rishi Sunak keeps his role as Chancellor of the Exchequer.

Michael Gove he will keep his place in Cabinet as new Secretary for Housing, Communities and Local Government.
