A prolific shoplifter has been sentenced to 10 weeks in prison after she was found hiding under a bed by police officers attempting to arrest her for breaching a court order.

Jenna Harris, 55, of Lincoln Drive, South Oxhey, was jailed on Wednesday (16 July) after appearing at Hatfield Magistrates’ Court. Her sentencing follows a theft at Lidl on Prestwick Road on 10 June, during which several food items were stolen.

Harris had previously been issued with a Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) that barred her from entering the supermarket and others in the area. Her re-entry to Lidl and involvement in the theft placed her in breach of the order and made her wanted by police.

Late on Monday night (14 July), officers from Team 3 Intervention located Harris at an address in South Oxhey. In a bid to evade capture, she was found hiding under a bed. She was arrested at the scene, taken into custody, and charged before her court appearance two days later.

Three Rivers’ Chief Inspector Kio Bozorgi said: “Harris’ arrest and charge is part of our mission to crackdown on retail crime in our town centres. Shoplifting causes great harm to our economy and makes our local businesses’ lives a misery.

“They have been raising concerns with us about these crimes, and rightly so, but we hope they know that our persistence in tracking Harris down is testament to our commitment in making our town centres safer places.

“Harris chose to completely flout the terms of her CBO and continue her crime spree, but this has now caught up with her thanks to the tenacity of my officers. I hope this serves as a warning to other criminals who think Three Rivers is an easy target; we will catch up with you, and there will be consequences for your actions.”
