Scammers target individual sellers who are selling valuable items such as phones and cameras.

After being contacted about the items for sale, the scammer arrives at the person's house and convinces the seller to use a convincing banking app to transfer funds.

Over 30 offences have been reported across the country, including Hemel Hempstead and Welwyn Garden City since May this year.

PC Colin Cheesewright from Hertfordshire Police's fraud hub told Greatest Hits, "With this particular scam there is that element of intrusion into personal space.

That has an emotional impact on people because of the fraudster is coming to their home address, it does create that feeling of unsafety.

I would advise Hertfordshire residents is get that money in your account before you give anything away.

Whenever you're selling or buying an item on a second-hand sale site of any kind, if you're selling, make sure that money gets into your account. Use authorised methods when you're buying. If you're using PayPal, don't use PayPal friends and family use the actual business one because then if there are any disputes, PayPal will investigate it further.

If you're buying things, if you use credit cards, you've got chargeback, it's about just making sure you're using the payment methods that you know what the result is going to be at the end of it."
