A Hertfordshire pharmacist says as longa s the sector gets government money, new plans for them to ease GP pressure are an 'exciting opportunity'.

The Government plans to launch a public communication campaign to advise people on when and how to access NHS care from a high-street pharmacy.

The campaign will include information on new technology innovations and the expanded powers of community pharmacists.

Patients will be able to get prescription medication for seven common conditions, including earache, sore throat, or urinary tract infections, directly from a pharmacy without a GP appointment.

The measures are part of an "overhaul of primary care" backed by £645 million of spending over two years.

The government will also launch a "national education campaign" on how to access NHS care, addressing confusion among patients.

Rachel Solanki told greatest hits radio what she thinks: "People need healthcare in the right place at the right time and community pharmacists' are well trained and trusted professionals. To use those skills to support the public is something we are quite excited about".

"But we are in desperate need of new funding. In real terms we've had a 30% reduction (in funding) since 2015. It is a sector which needs some funding"

"The plan needs the correct backing so we can invest in our workforce".

The government say new funding for pharmacies will come this year.
