Today a hearing, adjourned from last week, will continue in the High Court relating to the Highways England injunction aimed at Insulate Britain.

Government ministers have supported this injunction, they like many others have publicly commented about the recent protests from Insulate Britain.

The original injunction was granted in the absence of representatives from Insulate Britain, who now have a right to apply for a variation in the terms of the injunction or to argue that it should not have been granted.

Insulate Britain have said they do not intend to contest the injunction.

A statement from the group reads:

"We all get it, we all know the government needs to take meaningful steps to address climate breakdown. We also agree that stopping ordinary people and disrupting normal, everyday life is unacceptable.

"Yet we also have to ask, what should you do when your government is betraying you? This sounds alarmist, but it is the reality of our situation. Through its refusal to take the most obvious steps of insulating our homes, which is the cheapest, most effective means of reducing carbon emissions, our government is locking in the destruction of our families, our communities and the state itself.

"It is not the people of Insulate Britain who should be facing imprisonment, it is our government who need to be in court for treason."

Liam, an Insulate Britain spokesperson, says they want a meaningful response :

"What the government and Highways England choose with regards to injunction and such is their business. Our business is to continue to demand that the UK Government acts in terms of its primary responsibility which is to protect the people of Britain.

"We do sympathise with peoples anger over the disruption. But its worth noting this isn't just a 'cause', this is about them UK Government facilitating the absolute destruction of our children's futures.

"The more we realise the truth of how dangerous that predicament is, then hopefully those people will join us on the roads."
