Hertfordshire bookshop appeal for help to stay open

They're asking for local support

The Book Nook in Ware, Hertfordshire are appealing for help to save their bookshop.

Owner Julia Chesterman opened the doors in 2019, but with rent due and the rising cost of utility bills she is now faced with the prospect of having to close.

From children's story mornings to author meet & greets, the Book Nook provides a number of community events.

As they approach their 4th anniversary this April Julia said:

"When I opened the book shop I did it on a shoestring and people found out about us through word of mouth and social media. Like everyone we are struggling with the cost of living crisis, our energy bills have gone up and sales in January and February were so low I was in a position where I thought, ok, March sales have got to be good otherwise I cant see how I am going to pay my bills at the end of the month."

"I put out a social media post last week as I hadn't sold any books that day and I was just in despair. It was a little plea to people who follow us on social media that if you are considering buying a book and you can afford to buy a book this month, please consider buying from us, rather than going online or visiting a high street shop or your local supermarket."

Julia also said a massive thank you to anyone who has supported them this month, by buying a book or sharing their social media post or just by posting messages of support in hope the bookshop can stay open.
