A pub in Hemel Hempstead, known for anti-social behaviour in its vicinity, has been made to shut its doors.

Local residents had been complaining of noise and reckless behaviour at the Tudor Rose public house on Long Chaulden.

Tensions reached their peak on the night of the 1st of February, where severe anti-social behaviour spilled out into the shopping area next to the bar.

As a result of the consistent complaints, Dacorum’s Community Safety Unit (CSU) have joined forces with the local Council's licence team to get a full closure order.

The order was granted at St. Alban's Magistrates' Court on February 4th and mandates the pub to remain shut, due to a lack of appropriate security and staff.

In addition to this, no one is allowed to enter the pub itself other than the owners - Stonegate Brewery - and sub-contractors and utility companies in the need of an emergency.

The full closure order was granted at a hearing at St. Albans' Magistrates' Court.

Speaking about the case, Sergeant Mike Saunders, from the CSU, said that the pub will remain shut for at least six weeks while a new landlord is appointed and renovations are being carried out on the building.

"Stonegate Brewery have assured us that the new landlord is someone they know and trust, who has a wealth of experience in the management of licenced premises and dealing with any potential issues that might occur," he said.

"We hope this result will provide some respite from the ongoing issues suffered by neighbours and improve their quality of life.

“The Tudor Rose is part of the community and Stonegate have assured us that they are working hard to ensure that this pub becomes a focal point again, but this time for all the right reasons," he added.
