Man suffers serious head injury in St Albans city centre assault

Police say the victim, a man in his 20s, was knocked unconscious after being punched and are asking anyone who saw the assault or took photos to come forward

Police are appealing for witnesses after a man in his 20s was seriously injured in an assault in St Albans city centre in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The incident happened on St Peter’s Street between 2.20am and 2.45am yesterday (Sunday 18 May), near The Entertainer and Subway.

A man, who was part of a group, is reported to have punched the victim, who then fell to the ground and became unconscious. Paramedics treated him at the scene before he was taken to hospital with serious head injuries.

Detective Constable Emily Foley, from the St Albans Local Crime Unit, said: “The victim was taken to hospital and is being treated for serious injuries. Enquiries are continuing today to trace the group of people who were involved in the incident.

“We are also keen to hear from anyone who was in the area and may have seen the assault or taken a photo of the people involved.

“Perhaps you saw the victim or the group before the assault – any information you can provide may be useful to our investigation, so please do get in touch with us.”
