Ground handlers on strike over working conditions at Luton Airport
Passengers flying with WizzAir were warned of possible disruptions as ground handlers formed a picket line for the second time this summer.
A picket line was formed by Unite the Action at London Luton Airport for the second time in eight days following a dispute over working conditions.
Ground handlers working at the airport say issues are continuously brought up but assure no action has been taken by their employer, GH London Ground Handling Services Ltd.
Keith Batt, team leader at GH London and Unite the Union representative, said: "We have issues with girls on the front desk who get verbally and physically abused by customers and the company refuses to do anything about it."
Alongside these challenges, Union representatives claim that there are disciplinary disparities between workers from different backgrounds.
Mr Batt said: "There are lots of issues we are out here for, but striking is the last thing we want to do."
Union reps say they are ready to talk with GH London to overcome issue and resolve strike action, but assure the company refuse to talk to them.
The airport announced in a statement "robust contingency plans" were in place to ensure there would be "no adverse impact for passengers".
If no agreement is reached, the next strike action scheduled for the 13th of September will be going ahead.
GH London have been approached for comment but are yet to reply.
Their spokesperson has previously said they're "disappointed about the strikes" and have "worked tirelessly to promote a great working environment".
