Bedfordshire Council using gritters to protect roads in heat
Some parts of Central Bedfordshire are experiencing very high road surface temperatures
Gritters are out on Bedfordshire's roads as the extreme heat beings to melt tarmac.
Some parts of Central Bedfordshire are experiencing very high road surface temperatures.
This can lead to tarmac beginning to soften, which may cause surface damage.
To combat this, Central Bedfordshire Council are sending out gritters to spread a fine layer of crushed stone.
This helps protect the road surface and provides extra grip for vehicles.
You might not expect to see gritters in summer, but the council maintains that it’s an important part of looking after our roads during extreme weather conditions.
