Fundraising motorcycle challenge passes through Luton
Four men are raising money for two charities in memory of a friend lost to prostate cancer
Four air traffic controllers are setting off from Luton this morning in the next phase of their huge motorcycle challenge in memory of a departed colleague.
They started their endeavour to raise awareness for prostate cancer, with a journey spanning multiple radar sites across the UK, all the while raising money for Prostate Cancer UK and Aerobility, a charity which offers disabled people the opportunity to fly an aeroplane.
'The Big Tour 24 in 24' was organised by Wayne Clarke to commemorate Alan, a former colleague who lost his battle with prostate cancer last year, and is joined by Richard Fell, Shaun Bellairs-Wray and Harvey McVicar.
The four men set off from Aberdeen Airport last Sunday, to reach Luton Airport last night and set to return to Hampshire on the 30th, after crossing The rest of England down to the coast and all the way to Gibraltar.
Mr Clarke said: "When Alan took ill and received his diagnosis, we began discussing bucket list activities. I took him out on my motorcycle, and that experience sparked the idea for this journey."
"This journey is a way for us to pay tribute to Alan's memory and raise awareness for a cause that is close to our hearts."
"We are overwhelmed by the support and generosity we've received from individuals and organizations alike."
Among the supporters is Bristol Search and Rescue, who generously contributed £2000 to the cause, while motorcycle manufacturer Triumph provided helmets and equipment for the journey.
Other contributions include signed memorabilia from celebrities and donations from individuals affected by prostate cancer.
Mr Clarke said: "We're truly grateful for the outpouring of support we've received, and every donation and gesture means a lot to us and motivates us to continue our mission."
"This journey is about more than just raising funds, it's about honouring Alan's legacy and supporting those affected by prostate cancer."
