A man has been jailed for four years after scamming students in Milton Keynes and other areas in a series of fraud offences.
Sir-Folliot Quarm, 32, from Vauxhall, London, was sentenced at Reading Crown Court on Thursday, 3 October. He admitted to conspiracy to commit fraud and money laundering.
Between December 2017 and April 2019, Quarm convinced students, including those in Milton Keynes, to take out finance on expensive items like phones, laptops, and Rolex watches. He promised them the finance deals wouldn’t go through, but once the students handed over the items, Quarm threatened them and their families to make them take out more finance.
He also targeted students in Reading, Oxford and London.
In total, 55 items worth over £57,000 were taken. Quarm attempted to get more, but failed credit checks stopped him. Had those gone through, the value would have been nearly £100,000.
Quarm was arrested in November 2018 and charged in October 2021. His victims included ten university-age students from areas including Milton Keynes.
Detective Constable Ross Fleming, who investigated the case, said: “Fraud affects people everywhere, including in Milton Keynes. Fraudsters will lie, cheat, and threaten to get what they want.”
He urged people to be cautious of offers that sound too good to be true, such as deals involving taking out credit for someone else.
Fleming encouraged victims to come forward: “If you’ve been affected by fraud, report it. You will be treated with respect, and we will work to get justice for you."
