Police issue flooding warning in Buckinghamshire

Storm Alex is causing issues across the county

Thames Valley Police has issued a flooding warning after lots of heavy rain in Buckinghamshire.

Storm Alex has caused issues across the county all weekend and after lots of rainfall overnight, people will be waking up to flooding in certain areas.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning of rain until 12pm.

Officers are reminding motorists to drive carefully after receiving multiple reports of flooding within Aylesbury Vale.

Buckinghamshire Fire & Rescue Service say they have received multiple calls about flooding in different areas across the county including:

  • Aston Clinton
  • Aylesbury
  • Bletchley
  • Great Brickhill
  • Slapton
  • Stoke Mandeville
  • Weston Turville
  • Woburn Green

Incidents

Just before 9am fire crews were also called to an incident in Swan Bottom Road, The Lee.

A vehicle and its occupants were stranded in floodwater.

Crews from Aylesbury, Amersham and Beaconsfield rescued a man, uninjured.

Bishopstone has also been affected, crews rescued a man and two children out of a vehicle that was stranded in floodwater in the village just after 9:30am.

As of 11am the A418, Oxford Road, in Aylesbury is closed due to flooding and a car is currently stranded in the standing water.

Road closures

Police have informed us of other road closures across Buckinghamshire including:

  • Penn Road, Aylesbury
  • Brook End, Weston Turville
  • Marsh Lane, Stoke Mandeville
  • Lower Road, Stoke Mandeville
  • Broughton Lane, Aylesbury
  • Oxford Road, Aylesbury
It's not sure how long the car has been stranded
The road has been closed off and The Environment Agency were on the scene at 11am

Reporting emergencies

Buckinghamshire Council has also echoed the warning from TVP, asking motorists to drive safely.

Transport for Buckinghamshire crews are on standby to deal with reports of flooding across the county.

Problems on trains continue

Yesterday we saw services to Princes Risborough affected by the wet conditions.

Today, due to flooding between Bicester North and Haddenham & Thame Parkway all lines are blocked.

Chiltern Railways has advised that all lines will be delayed because trains are running at a reduced speed due to the weather.

They are reminding passengers to check before you travel, you can find all the latest updates here.

Chiltern Railways customers can also use Great Western Railway services on any reasonable route.

Dacorum Police has issued guidance for residents in Hertfordshire:

Property flooding expected

The Environment Agency has issued a flood warning for Bear Brook in Aylesbury.

As a result of Storm Alex river levels have risen on the Bear Brook and California Brook, which has burst its banks in place.

The EA are issuing warnings for Broughton to Haydon Mill Farm in Coldharbour.

They are expecting property flooding, especially in the Penn Road area.

Met Office guidance

The Met Office has given this advise on what to expect from a yellow weather warning of rain:

  • Homes and businesses could be flooded, causing damage to some buildings
  • Fast flowing or deep floodwater is possible, causing a danger to life
  • Delays or cancellations to train and bus services are possible
  • Spray and flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures
  • Some communities may be cut off by flooded roads
  • Possible power cuts and loss of other services to some homes and businesses

999 calls

Buckinghamshire Fire & Rescue are receiving a high number of calls about flooding.

Crews are reminding the public they should only call 999 if there is a risk to life or a risk of danger if water enters a property.
