Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue is responding to a significant fire at a waste recycling site on Wallace Way, Hitchin. As part of the emergency response, the junctions at Cadwell Lane, Wilbury Way, and Woolgrove Road have been closed to allow for the setup of a high-volume pump.

In a public advisory, the service has urged people to avoid the area to ensure the safety of both the public and emergency teams. Residents in the immediate vicinity are advised to keep windows and doors closed due to smoke from the fire.

A spokesperson for Fire Control said, "Our team has been busy supporting the incident, managing over 60 emergency calls so far, as well as coordinating numerous appliance movements and multi-agency communications."
