Investigation underway after man dies in house fire in Wheathampstead

Police in Hertfordshire say a man has died after a fire at a property in Wheathampstead.

Emergency services were called to Lower Luton Road at 7 o'clock this morning.

In a statement Hertfordshire Constabulary said:

"Police were called just after 7am today to reports of a fire at a residential property on Lower Luton Road, Wheathampstead.

"Officers, the Herts Fire and Rescue Service and the East of England Ambulance Service attended.

"Sadly a man was discovered deceased inside the property.

"Although he has not been formally identified, his next of kin have been informed.

"The cause of the fire will be investigated."
