Duchess of Edinburgh joins England Hockey teams for training drills in Buckinghamshire
Sophie practiced shooting and discussed future plans for the sport.
The Duchess of Edinburgh showcased her hockey skills alongside England Hockey teams during a visit to Bisham Abbey National Sports Centre in Marlow, Buckinghamshire.
Sophie, who has been patron of England Hockey since 2006, joined the senior women’s squad on the bright blue pitch on Monday as both the men’s and women’s teams prepare for World Cup qualification and the next leg of the FIH Pro League.
Dressed in an all-black outfit with white Adidas running shoes featuring neon accents, she took part in training drills with the women’s team and practiced shooting with goalkeeper Miriam Pritchard.
During her visit, Sophie met members of England Hockey’s executive team and discussed plans for the sport’s future, including hosting the EuroHockey Championships in 2027.
She also watched both squads in action during their training sessions, where they are gearing up for upcoming competitions.
The Duchess is known to be a big fan of hockey, sharing sport enthusiasm with fellow royal, the Princess of Wales, who played as captain of her school team at Marlborough College.
