Man jailed for drug dealing and carrying a knife in Hitchin
The 23 year old was arrested twice within the space of a few days earlier this year
A man has been jailed for drug dealing and carrying a knife in Hitchin.
23 year old Abul Kasim, of Nevilles Way, Letchworth Garden City, has been handed a prision term of four years and six months for drugs offences, along with a six month sentence for carrying a blade.
He was convicted of four counts of possession with intent to supply Class A drugs and one count of possession of an offensive weapon.
Kasim was arrested in Ransome recreation ground in Hitchen on August 11 this year and was arrested again on August 16 in Windmill Hill.
On both occasions he was found to be carrying drugs and cash.
Detective Constable Rachel Williams, from Hertfordshire Police, said:
“We were able to quickly arrest Kasim and get him before the courts with help from our Operation Scorpion team."
"While in custody Kasim told officers that he was selling drugs to fund his lifestyle.
“We are pleased he received five years imprisonment as drugs blight the lives of so many people and cause harm to our communities.
"In addition, he equipped himself with a knife, which could have ended up with someone being seriously injured or worse.
"I hope this reassures residents in Hitchin that we are determined to do everything we can to get drugs off the streets and shows people that it is not worth getting involved in drugs or drug related crime.”
