Driver suffers life-threatening injuries in M1 collision
The driver of the Volkswagen Polo, a man in his 30s, was airlifted to hospital following a collision on the M1 at 5.45pm yesterday
Police are appealing for witnesses following a collision on the M1 at 5.45pm yesterday (Monday).
The incident, involving a white Mercedes HGV and a grey Volkswagen Polo, took place a short distance from the southbound exit slip road at J10.
A full closure of the main northbound carriageway and a partial closure of the southbound carriageway was put in place for around one hour, whilst emergency services attended the scene.
The driver of the Volkswagen Polo, a man in his 30s, was airlifted to hospital where he remains in a life-threatening condition.
Sergeant Timothy Davies from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Roads Policing Unit said: “We are asking drivers who were travelling along this section of the M1 at the time of the incident and witnessed the collision to please get in touch.
“We are particularly interested in any dashcam footage that captured the incident or the events leading up to it.”
The driver of the white Mercedes HGV, a 40-year-old man, has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
