Dacorum Police are reminding people to never leave their drinks unattended after national reports of drink spiking, as well as possible ‘needle spiking’ incidents.

The force have said while they haven't seen a significant rise in reports across Hertfordshire, they aren't being complacent.

Dacorum Police took to Facebook to let the public know they fully understand reports of this nature are alarming for people and with the county’s night time economy expected to be busy this weekend, they will be working with local venues to ensure that steps are taken to help keep all patrons safe.

They are also reminding people that Spiking someone’s drink is a serious offence.

Police added:

"Sex with anyone – male or female – who is incapacitated through drink or drugs is rape, whatever the circumstances and offenders could find themselves facing a prison sentence and being placed on the sex offenders’ register."

Anybody who believes they have been a victim of spiking in any way, is told to report it at the earliest available opportunity so that as much evidence as possible can be gathered.

If you have been a victim of sexual assault, under any circumstances, and do not feel comfortable talking to police initially, Herts SARC (Sexual Assault Referral Centre) can provide advice and support.
