Crews remain at the scene of Bedford gas leak
They were first called to Cleat Hill on Tuesday afternoon
Fire crews from Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service have remained at the scene overnight again as work continues to close a gas leak in Bedford.
Crews were called on Tuesday (July 2) around 3pm to Cleat Hill, where a 100m cordon was put in place, as well as road closures from Police.
Residents in Glenrose Avenue and Wagstaffe Close are still being advised to keep their windows and doors shut, as well as any other residents in the immediate area.
Yesterday morning, a spokesperson from Nicholls Boreholes and Ground Source, who are working at the site, said:
"Whilst undertaking the installation of a closed loop ground source heat pump borehole we have encountered a pocket of naturally occurring gas at approximately 100 meters below ground level. The borehole has been temporarily capped to control the flow of gas whilst we work with the emergency services to permanently close the borehole. In the interim Nicholls Boreholes remain on site in a supporting role."
Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service now say the road closures in Cleat Hill, Kimbolton Road, Glenrose Avenue and Wagstaffe Close are expected to be in place until around lunchtime today.
One crew remained at the scene overnight.
