CQC report finds Stoke Mandeville maternity needing improvement
The Care Quality Commission found the maternity ward at Stoke Mandeville Hospital requiring improvement.
In its latest report following a visit to Stoke Mandeville Hospital in June 2023, the Care Quality Commission (CQC) found the maternity ward in need for improvement.
The CQC is an independent body that regulates health and social care services by inspecting providers of care and rating those into either one of the following categories: outstanding, good, requires improvement or inadequate.
In this instance, the maternity ward in Buckinghamshire highlighted areas in need of improvement, despite showing encouraging signs of a well-led service.
"...the safety of those using our services is our priority..."
Neil Macdonald, Chief Executive of Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust, said: "We would like to thank everyone working hard in our maternity service for what they do every day to look after the women, birthing people and babies in their care."
"We are proud that the CQC recognised in the report published today that our maternity team is focused on the needs of those receiving care, promote equality and diversity and have an open culture where people using the service, their families and staff, could raise concerns without fear."
Addressing areas from the CQC's report requiring improvement, Mr Macdonald said: "The safety of those using our services is our priority and there are a number of actions required to make the necessary improvements."
"In the short term work is already underway to address the issues that have been raised including implementing plans to improve maternity triage, to recruit and retain more staff and to maintain supplies of appropriate equipment."
Mr Macdonald assured the hospital is now looking into how to address challenges faced to better their service.
Stoke Mandeville Hospital assured their overall CQC rating remained good, despite this latest report into the maternity ward.
