Coronavirus recovery plan goes before Buckinghamshire Council

The plan focuses on economic and business recovery

The Council are reviewing the 'Recovery and Growth Deal for Buckinghamshire" today

Councillors are set to review the 'Recovery and Growth deal for Buckinghamshire' at this mornings Cabinet meeting.

The focus of this is on the economic and business issues, and how they might grow and recovery going forward.

There are four key areas to the planned recovery; Places, High-Tech Sectors, Skills and Infrastructure.

  • Places - 'Repurpose and create quality, low carbon, healthy and connected communities for people to live and work'
  • The council have outlined several areas of focus for this, including the delivery of 50,000 by 2036.
  • The aim according to the council is to bring in the workforce of the future and make Buckinghamshire a place where young workers can start a life.
  • Making sure the homes are environmentally friendly and affordable is also highlighted.
  • High-tech sectors - 'Mobilise distinctive and internationally recognised economic assets and strengths'
  • The focus from Buckinghamshire council here is on making sure residents and businesses in Buckinghamshire have access to high speed broadband.
  • Explaining that residents want and need better connectivity since the county already has a one of the highest uptakes for superfast broadband.
  • Skills - 'Create an accelerated skills delivery system to drive our ambitions for recovery, retraining and economic growth'
  • Reskilling and upskilling current workers is described as one of the focuses in this section, as well as supporting young people to gain the skills they need to move into the workforce.
  • Areas with a shortage of workers, such as engineering and nursing, will see accelerated training in qualifications offered.
  • Infrastructure is also recognised in the deal as a focus, this will be framework put in place to support the above schemes succeed.
  • For example, a county wide bus regulation is proposed.

Todays Cabinet have been recommended to:

  • Support the deal proposal
  • Delegate to the Leader of the Council (Cllr Martin Tett) the power to make and improve minor amendments following comments from the Cabinet
  • Approve the submission of the Proposal to Government by the Buckinghamshire Growth Board
