A controlled explosion has been carried out near to Watford Football Club's stadium.

Hertfordshire Police were called to reports of a suspicious package being found in High View, off Vicarage Road, earlier today (Saturday 20th September 2025).

Residents and businesses were evacuated as a 100 metre cordon was put in place as a precaution.

Officers also confirmed access to Watford General Hospital was not impacted.

Earlier Inspector Scott Curren, of Hertfordshire Constabulary said: “Police were called at 8.40am this morning, Saturday 20 September, to reports of a suspicious device found in a business premises between Vicarage Road and The Hornets.

“Officers attended and set up a cordon, evacuating nearby homes and businesses. Other emergency services are attending as a precaution and a specialist unit from the EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) is on scene.

“We ask people to avoid the area at this time.”

An update has since been issued, saying a controlled explosion has taken place and restrictions have been lifted.
