A 19-year-old from Watford has been sentenced to 22 years in prison after a shooting in Bushey last September.

Almamie Jawara was found guilty of two counts of attempted murder and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.

Fortunately no injuries were reported.

A Hertfordshire Police spokesperson said, "An investigation was launched by officers from the Operation Thwart team who focus on tackling serious street violence, after shots were fired towards an address in Woolmerdine Court at around 4.24pm on Sunday 15 September.

"Through enquiries, detectives identified nine shots which had been fired towards the address, with a further two fired towards residents who exited the property.

"A number of police resources, including armed officers and the police helicopter, were deployed to try and locate Jawara who left on a Sur-Ron style electric motorbike.

"He was subsequently arrested and charged on 26 September 2024."

He was sentenced at St Albans Crown Court today.

The leading Detective, Sergeant George Lewin said "Almamie Jawara has been handed a significant sentence which reflects the utmost seriousness of these crimes and the level of risk his actions posed to the public.

"Whilst violent incidents of this nature are thankfully uncommon, I hope this lengthy jail term sends a strong message and reassurance to residents across Hertfordshire, that firearms and gang-related offending will simply not be tolerated.

“This result comes from a complex and technical investigation that was only possible due to the diligent work of the Operation Thwart team, officers from across the county and the prosecution team.

"In particular, I would like to thank Counsel Patrick Dennis, Senior Crown Prosecutor Jan Muller and Detective Constable Natasha Martin for their hard work to bring this individual to justice.”
