A personal trainer from Buckinghamshire is giving advice on how to keep food shops cheaper amid the cost of living crisis, without sacrificing your health.

It's claimed one in seven adults in the UK live with people who have skipped meals or gone hungry because they can't afford food.

The Food Foundation says the number of people struggling to buy things to eat rose by more than half in just three months.

Brett Collier is a PT from Aylesbury:

"I would focus on trying to buy fresh ingredients and shop around - preparation and planning are key!"

"The most expensive part of most people's food shops is your meats, especially if you buy fresh meat, so I think frozen meat is a good alternative.

"A lot of people skip breakfast, but having a decent breakfast means you don't need to eat as much at lunch - you would save a lot more money that way round.

"Batch cooking is always a really useful thing to do if you're cooking dinner for a small family, and then preparing lunches out of the same meals.

"If you are prepared to put in a bit of time, you can find very healthy foods that tick all of your nutritional boxes without having to spend a fortune."
