Curated by the Bucks Black History Group, Looking Back, Walking Forward: a Black History Shoe Project will see members of the Buckinghamshire community share stories and photos based on their shoes.

Inspired by a pair of wedding shoes Mr Alphonse donated to the museum in 2020, this digital project will represent contributions made by the Black community to the history of Britain.

The group, which was established in February last year, aim to 'help people gain knowledge and understanding of Black history in order to move forward'.

They also want to give members of the Black Bucks community an opportunity to open up about their past experiences whilst looking to the future.

Community Outreach Manager, Siemma from Discover Bucks Museum, said:

"For us as a group it's recognised that the museum have not had many voices from the Black community in the past and that is something we are really passionate about changing.

"I am a strong believer in it's not about us, without us. We won't be able to do that without the community, so we need to reach out to them, find those stories and display them in the museum."

Looking Back, Walking Forward: a Black History Shoe Project will be available to view online until February 2022.

A webinar taking place on Saturday 16th October will see some of the group's meaningful objects on display, a book recital from local author Tracey Harris as well as a steelpan performance.
