Refurbishments planned for historic Marlow Bridge
A plan has been submitted for vast works to refurbish and conserve the bridge
Vast refurbishment works are in the pipeline for a historic bridge.
Transport for Bucks (TfB) has submitted a ālisted building applicationā for Marlow Bridge.
Plans outline ārefurbishment to the bridge, including works to the carriageway, footway, towers, lighting, drainage, parapet posts and timber railsā.
However, council documents reveal more details, including āreplacing five of the 12 bridge bearingā, ācarriageway patching workā, and footway repairs.
It also mentions āconservation work to the bridge towersā, ādrainage clearingā, and the āreplacement of some street lighting cabling to bring the lighting back into serviceā.
Parapet posts will be āstrippedā and painted, and parapet timber rails will be āremovedā and taken to a nearby workshop for treatment.
It also details the ātemporary relocation of canoe boats during the works and their reinstatement on completionā and plans to ādemolish a shed and rebuild to current standardsā.
Marlow Canoe Club, andMarlow Rowing Club have both been consulted, documents state.
It is anticipated the refurbishment will take approximately 40 weeks, a heritage statement reads.
āThis is a like-for-like refurbishment,ā it adds.
The news comes after residents said back in July the bridge is due a fresh coat of paint, with some branding it a ādisgraceā.
The footway and railings have begun to rust, and mould has also started to grow.
A majority of work will be from āSpring 2022 onwardsā.
