Buckinghamshire locals are being reminding of coronavirus restrictions.

Cases in Buckinghamshire have risen recently and are now about 100 per hundred thousand people for the first time in several months.

With a relaxation of restrictions recently and current sporting events people are being encouraged to stick to the rules currently in place.

Dan Flecknoe is a Public Health Consultant for Buckinghamshire Council:

"It is completely understandable people want to celebrate and join together with England doing well, like in the Euros. However, it is important this is done responsibly. Celebrations and alcohol can impacts decisions.

"For the first time in what must be 3 or 4 months we are above 100 cases per hundred thousand people which is not good, we had been declining before then.

"The case rate for young people between the ages of 19-24 years old is over 400 per hundred thousand, that is significantly higher. Put it this way, if that age group was a country you would definitely have to quarantine after visiting.

"We are in a situation where this virus is still circulating particularly in those young adults and only about of them have had their first dose.

"So they are a largely unprotected group of people."

Meanwhile, Central Bedfordshire Council have issued a warning about socialising.

A newsletter from the council explains that socialising for events like Euros 2021 and Wimbledon can lead to increased transmission.

They also highlighted a rise in cases amongst younger generations:

"Younger people are being most affected now, with those between 20 and 40 testing positive at higher rates. This group may have greater exposure due to their work, such as in hospitality, are largely unvaccinated (or not doubly vaccinated yet) and may come into contact with more people while socialising indoors."

People are being urged to do the following:

  • Meet outdoors where possible, adhering to social distancing
  • When indoors stick to the rule of 6, or 2 households
  • If meeting indoors keep windows open and socially distance
  • Continue to wash hands regularly
  • Wear a mask in all areas needed, e.g. travelling, when not sat eating or drinking in a restaurant or other venue
  • Test regularly
  • Isolate if you develop symptoms and take a PCR test
