Bucks Council welcomes reopening of county theatres
Two of the counties most well known theatres have welcomed back audiences
Buckinghamshire Council has welcomed the reopening of Wycombe Swan Theatre on 25 August and the reopening of Aylesbury Waterside Theatre 5 today (5th September).
Both theatres are a huge part of cultural life in Buckinghamshire, and their reopening marks an important milestone in the county’s journey to recovering from the pandemic. Having been closed since March 2020, as soon as the lifting of restrictions was announced, the theatres have been working hard to ensure the safety of their audiences as they return, ensuring they follow the latest guidance.
Clive Harriss, Cabinet Member for Culture and Leisure, said:
“I’m sure the reopening of Wycombe Swan Theatre, Aylesbury Waterside Theatre and other local theatres will be welcomed by people across Buckinghamshire.
“The theatres, their staff and all of those involved in upcoming productions have worked really hard to prepare for the reopenings, and we wish them well as they start to welcome back audiences.
“The reopenings will also have a positive knock-on effect for our town centres, as many visitors to the theatres will enhance their trip with a meal at one of the local cafes or restaurants – stimulating further the vibrant local nightlife economy.”
Fiona Martin, Wycombe Swan’s Theatre Director, commented:
“We’re delighted to be opening the doors again after such a long period of closure; and to be able to share the thrill of live entertainment with audiences again at Wycombe Swan.
“Our team have worked hard to make sure we’re ready to reopen safely and securely – with a focus on providing the best possible experience for our customers. We’d like to thank audiences for their patience and understanding over this period and as we work to return things to normal – and we can’t wait to welcome them back.”
