Buckinghamshire mind launch new campaign to get people active
'Be Active for Bucks Mind' is also aimed at fundraising for the mental health support service
Buckinghamshire Mind have launched a new campaign to get people active.
'Be Active for Bucks Mind' has been launched by Buckinghamshire Mind to try and engage people with physical activity, educate them of the benefits and raise some funds for the group.
They explain that physical activity can help with better sleep, happier moods and managing stress, anxiety or intrusive and racing thoughts.
Kaya Mallinder is Fundraising and Communications Officer for Buckinghamshire Mind:
“Bucks Mind recognises that it’s particularly important, in these uncertain times and during a period of national lockdown in England, for us all to look after our mental and physical wellbeing.
“You don’t have to be a marathon runner or take up a sport to take part in Be Active for Bucks Mind, you simply need to try and be active in some way every day for a period of time. You could do gardening, dog walking, yoga or even be mentally active by completing a crossword. You could do a different activity every day or repeat the same one. You could do it every day for a week, a month or longer. It really is up to you! Once you’ve decided what activity you want to do and for how long, just set-up a JustGiving fundraising page and ask your friends and family to sponsor you.
“By taking part in the Be Active for Bucks Mind you can not only support your own mental health but also that of local people experiencing a mental health problem by raising funds for Bucks Mind.”
The advice is to set up an achievable goal, give a timescale and then if people want to start a fundraising page and have people sponsor you.
Kari Channell, is also a Fundraising and Communications Officer for Buckinghamshire Mind, and says its about making an achievable goal:
"What is really great is that this is an inclusive campaign. So for people who are maybe managing medical and physical disabilities.
"For example I have some mobility issues. I aim to be active regularly but some days I can't physically be active, so I will switch it up and do something mentally active.
"So a crossword puzzle or a painting or a slight dance and a boogie in the kitchen. The great thing about this campaign is that everyone can adapt it to them and their needs."
