Buckinghamshire Council and Watford Borough Council applied jointly for the grant.

Homes in Buckinghamshire are set to benefit after the council were awarded a share of the Green Homes Grant, after a joint bid with Watford Borough Council.

The delivery partner for the scheme will be the National Energy Foundation, a charity focused on providing greener energy solutions for homes.

It's part of the Green Homes Grant Local Authority Delivery scheme, has been awarded by the Government's Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS), after a competitive application process.

Around 200 homes across both areas will be helped by the £2 million however the councils will identify and approach householders who fit the criteria.

Bill Chapple OBE, Buckinghamshire Council Cabinet Member for Environment and Climate Change, said:

"Making our homes more energy efficient is one of the highest-priority environmental challenges we face, and I'm pleased we're able to help local residents do this via this grant.

"My thanks go to our own team and our partners Watford Borough Council and the National Energy Foundation for putting the innovative successful bid together."

The work will be carried out by accredited installers managed by the NEF, a charity that specialises on improving the energy usage in buildings.

For owner occupiers, the work will be carried out for free. However, for rental properties (private and social), the landlord will be expected to pay at least one third of the cost.
