Buckinghamshire Council reports abuse to vulnerable adults
Buckinghamshire Council is signposting services to support vulnerable adults
A rising number of vulnerable adults are reporting abuse to Buckinghamshire Council.
The Council received a total of 12.000 reports of suspected abuse over the past year, with financial abuse and scams said to be on the rise.
Deputy leader for Buckinghamshire Council, Angela McPherson, said: "We really want to emphasise the fact that, although 12.000 is a large number, every single concern is taken seriously.
"You can report them online, you can report them anonymously as well."
Other forms of abuse, such as physical and domestic abuse, or negligence, remain high across the county.
"...particularly some elderly people are being taken advantage of, sometimes even by relatives."
Ms McPherson said: "There are many different types of abuse that we look at in terms of safeguarding and the ones most people will think about is physical abuse, and obviously the signs of that are often evident and it's really important people report those."
"It's all about really raising awareness of lots of different types of abuse.
"Things such as financial abuse is really on the up, particularly some elderly people are being taken advantage of, sometimes even by relatives."
The Council is increasing efforts to signpost how and where to find help, and is encouraging any individual to report abuse or suspected abuse to help protect the most vulnerable.
"The majority of those concerns come from services such as the ambulance service, doctors, obviously the public as well."
A range of events were organised this week to showcase the various services available across the county to support those in need.
