Buckinghamshire Council has opened a consultation on proposed changes to Conservation Areas in parts of the county.

The review covers Aylesbury, Buckingham, Haddenham and Winslow, with the council seeking public views on whether existing Conservation Areas should be amended, extended, or reduced.

Conservation Areas are designated by local authorities to identify places of special architectural or historical interest. Their purpose is to help preserve the heritage and character of towns and villages. Councils are required to review Conservation Areas from time to time to determine whether changes are needed.

Peter Strachan, Buckinghamshire Council’s Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Planning, said:

“Not only are we consulting on our approach to our Local Plan from today, we are also separately seeking views on the existing Conservation Areas in Aylesbury, Buckingham, Haddenham and Winslow. We want to know whether people think these should change or stay the same.

“It all feeds into how future planning and development should happen in our county. The wider Local Plan will inform the overall approach to development and where new homes and employment should be accommodated, while the Conservation Area Appraisals will review which locations have special consideration when it comes to planning, due to their unique characteristics. Adding a property to a Conservation Area does not eliminate opportunities for redevelopment but can help to manage it in an appropriate way that recognises the heritage and special character of the area. So please, get in touch and let us know what you think.”

Residents are invited to give their views on the Conservation Areas in Aylesbury, Buckingham, Haddenham and Winslow.
