Buckingham MP sceptical of continued mask wearing in schools

Greg Smith says they stifle learning

It may become 'personal choice' to wear a face covering

Buckingham's MP says he doesn't understand why school kids will still have to wear face coverings when they go back in just over a week.

The government confirmed masks will still be needed in secondary schools for now.

Greg Smith has been calling for them to be scrapped:

"There is no real evidence for why school children should have to wear masks in schools.

"The most vulnerable to covid-19 are now vaccinated and lots of people are now getting their second jabs to get their protection even higher."

It's hoped from 17th May, classrooms can be mask free.

However Greg says that should happen sooner.

He feels they get in the way of learning:

"They don't help children concentrate and I very much hope that the government can review this urgently, so that children can get back to being school children and focus on their studies, rather than being stifled by wearing masks in the classroom."
