A man's been sentenced to 27 years after being convicted for attempted murder in High Wycombe.

38-year-old Darren Robertson, of no fixed address, was sentenced yesterday on Friday (8th November) at Aylesbury Crown Court.

Robertson was found guilty by a unanimous jury verdict of one count of attempted murder on the 11t July, following a seven-day trial at the same court.

At around 1.10am on the 18th February, Robertson attacked the victim, a woman in her forties, with a brick at the Melbourne Recreation Ground.

The woman sustained life-changing injuries, which required surgery.

Robertson was arrested on the same day and was charged the following day.

Investigating Officer Detective Constable Ross Acland said: “Darren Robertson launched a sustained and unprovoked attack on the victim, leaving her with significant head injuries.

"He then left the victim in the park without making any effort to seek any assistance for her.

“The victim was found in a life-threatening condition and it is believed that she may have died of her injuries had she not been found as quickly as he was.

“I am glad that Robertson has been sentenced to a substantial prison sentence, which shows that we will bring offenders to justice.”
