Five arrested on suspicion of hunting offences in Braughing
A drone located a group of people with dogs walking on private land on Sunday morning
Five people have been arrested on suspicion of daytime poaching in Braughing.
Police were alerted to a group of people with dogs walking on private land, without permission, at around 10am on Sunday (27/11).
Officers from the East Herts Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) attended, alongside colleagues from the Rural Operational Support Team (ROST), but the group had gone to ground upon their arrival.
A search was carried out, utilising a drone and the group were subsequently located.
Five males were detained on suspicion of daytime poaching and were released to be interviewed by police as part of continuing enquiries.
A spokesperson for the ROST said: “This was a great team effort and shows what can be achieved with an early call into police.
“We take these incidents seriously and are committed to tackling illegal hunting. If you think hare coursing or poaching may be taking place, please contact police straight away.”
Hertfordshire is among seven forces who have signed up to a ‘borderless’ policing scheme to help tackle illegal coursing, lamping and poaching, under Operation Galileo.
