Mik started her job at Bucks Mind during lockdown, and her never met her coworkers in person.

A Mental Health Support Worker for Buckinghamshire Mind has shared the story of the last year with Greatest Hits Radio Bucks, Beds and Herts.

Mik explains that last year she was unemployed and scared, before finding work supporting homeless people in Bucks.

Although coronavirus has affected funding and access to services in a huge way, she says it has actually pushed society to look after homeless people.

She has shared her story as part of our Behind The Mask project, where we shine a light on different experiences of the pandemic, the emotional highs and lows and how people found their way through.

Mental health impact.

It comes as new figures released on Time to Talk Day, Thursday 4th February, reveal nearly half of us (44%) have felt the need to take time off work, school, or university due to a mental health problem during the pandemic.

But despite a high number of people needing time out, only 17% actually took a break. The reasons why pointed to mental health stigma. 27% said they were too embarrassed, 25% were worried about being judged and 24% thought it would risk their future career prospects.

Get involved in our #BehindTheMask project.

You can share your experiences and emotions from throughout the pandemic on social media using the hashtag #BehindTheMask.
