Bedfordshire Fire crews extinguish large scrap yard fire in Ampthill

They were called to Station Road before 7pm last night

Fire crews have worked overnight to contain and extinguish a blaze at Ampthill Scrap Yard on Station Road.

This morning Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed the fire had been extinguished at 4:13am.

The update also stated that crews would be returning at 9:30 today to reinspect the site.

Last night five appliances were called, with further support from Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service called to assist with water pumps at the scene.

Bedfordshire Police closed the road last night and firefighters confirmed they would continue into today (August 22).

Residents in the local area have been asked to keep their windows and doors closed and for people to continue to avoid the area.
