Bedfordshire teenager charged with rape after woman attacked in Wigan

A teenager from Bedfordshire has been charged after a serious sexual assault in Wigan a week ago.

The 17 year old, along with a 16 year old from Essex, have both been charged with raping an 18 year old woman on Monday morning.

It is alleged to have occurred in the early hours of Monday 18 April.

The 16 year old - who can't be named for legal reasons - appeared at Wigan and Leigh Magistrates' Court on Saturday 23 April and has been remanded in custody to appear at Bolton Crown Court on Monday 30 May.

The 17-year-old boy from Bedfordshire - who also cannot be named for legal reasons - has been charged with rape and is appearing today (26/4) at Wigan and Leigh Magistrates' Court.

An investigation was launched by detectives in Wigan CID after we were called at 1.55am on Monday 18 April 2022 to a report of a woman being raped at an address in the Aspull area of the town.

The victim is receiving specialist support from police and partners.
