Roads closed as major flooding hits parts of Bedfordshire

Police and the council are urging people to avoid the affected areas

A number of roads have been closed after significant flooding has hit parts of Bedfordshire, particularly around Dunstable, Flitwick, Cranfield and Marston Moretaine.

Pictures and videos shared online appear to show severe flooding on some roads, including Dunstable High Street South which has been closed by police.

A number of other roads in the area have also been closed due to floodwater.

Central Bedfordshire Council is urging people to avoid walking, cycling or driving in affected areas.

Advice on what to do if you come across floodwater and how to report it can be found on their website.

Local residents have told us it appears that some local businesses have been affected by floodwater and a number of vehicles are reportedly stuck in floodwater.

It comes as a yellow weather warning for rain remains in place.

The Met Office is warning heavy downpours may cause some flooding and difficult driving conditions.
