Bedford council meet today to decide response to Universal Studios theme park plan
The council are considering whether to formally back the Kempston Hardwick project but say government help is needed with roads, housing and local services
Bedford Borough Council are meeting today to agree their official response to proposals for a Universal Studios theme park and resort at Kempston Hardwick.
The authority says it supports the project but will ask the government for funding to deal with extra traffic, pressure on healthcare, and demand for new housing.
A spokesperson for Bedford Borough Council said: “We recognise the potential economic benefits of the Universal Studios project, but we need assurances on infrastructure and services to make sure the impact on Bedford is managed properly.”
The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government will make the final decision on whether the development goes ahead. A consultation on the plan runs until 31 August.
