The A421 southbound from the A603 Cardington Road (Cardington Cross) to the A6 (Elstow) near Bedford remains closed following a serious crash late last night.

Bedfordshire Police And East of England Ambulance Service was called at around 11:15pm yesterday evening to reports of a "serious collision" on the A421.

With the assistance of National Highways, the road was initially closed in both directions, with the northbound carriageway later re-opening at around 5:45am this morning (14/01).

However, National Highways have said that the southbound carriageway will require "emergency resurfacing due to damage caused to the road surface following a fuel spillage from the collision."

They expect the road to remain closed throughout this morning and into the afternoon.
