Local reaction to a week of coverage on HS2
GHR Beds, Bucks and Herts has spent the last week looking at the issue of HS2
Through this week GHR Bucks, Beds and Herts have been looking at the issue of HS2.
Starting on Tuesday with a conversation with Chilterns Conservation Board the history of HS2 and the danger to the natural landscape was covered.
Grant Shapps MP, Secretary of State for Transport, explained the greater good of a project like HS2 needs to be considered on Wednesday.
Then nearly elected Bucks Council Leader Mart Tett shared the difficulty they face challenging HS2 construction because of powers granted in the 2017 HS2 Act.
Friday saw the stories of protestors (and protectors) shared, including the wins they've seen and the outcome they think is still a reality: cancelling HS2 completely.
But what do the GHR BBH audiece think?
Some comments from this weeks stories are below, showing the line is continuing to be controversial even among locals:
To get to Birmingham 20 minutes quicker, where’s the benefit , no benefit to Bucks, also with the way the world is, more people working from home . And not to mention the environment impact it has had on the local countryside.
Give it up - you can't win. Just costing HS2 even more and it's being built anyway
Wasting their protestors time really, chances of it being cancelled is very low, billions have already been spent so might as well finish it & actually have something to show for it, yes before people say Bucks doesn't get anything out of it, yes atm we don't but it could change.
Unfortunately big money shouts louder than conservation or what the majority of the public want or need.
What about schools who need to bring children up to speed because of a pandemic and the NHS that needs to catch up and get on top of all the hospital waiting lists . Plus all the areas of OUTSTANDING NATURAL BEAUTY.... Devastated by these BUFFOONS. Normal people won’t be able to afford the vanity project.
Currently the construction work on HS2 continues, with the government set on their plan. However, the anti-HS2 movement is continuing the call for communication and mitigation to be properly managed is ongoing.
