Baby remembrance service to take Place in Bedford
It's to offer families an opportunity to light a candle in memory of their loved one
A special Baby Remembrance Service will be held in Bedford, offering families and individuals a chance to remember and honour babies who have been lost.
The service, organised by Bedford Borough Council in partnership with Clarabut and Plumbe, provides a supportive and reflective space during Baby Loss Awareness Week and International Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Day.
Led by Kevin Gavaghan, a member of The Association of Independent Celebrants, the ceremony will include an opportunity for attendees to light a candle in memory of their baby.
The service is open to both adults and children, and will take place at Norse Road Crematorium Chapel in Bedford on Wednesday 15 October 2025, at 10.45am.
As part of the week’s commemorations, Bedford Corn Exchange will be illuminated in pink and blue on the evening of Thursday 9 October, serving as a visual tribute to Baby Loss Awareness Week and a symbol of the community’s support for bereaved families.
Councillor Nicola Gribble, Portfolio Holder for Environment, said:
“We understand the profound grief experienced by families who have lost a baby, and this service aims to offer solace and a sense of community to those affected. Baby Loss Awareness Week is an important time to recognise and support bereaved families, and we encourage anyone who wishes to attend to come along and light a candle in memory of their little one. Lighting the Corn Exchange in pink and blue is another way Bedford Borough stands together in remembrance and support.”
