Aylesbury Town Council will be hosting a new Christmas event for 2022.

"Christmas on the Cobbles" will be the town’s largest Christmas event this year and is entirely free for people to attend.

This will be the first time the Council has been responsible for the town’s Christmas lights, the switch on event and parade. The council are determined to give people an event that they will be proud of despite of the cost-of-living crisis.

When will it take place?

The event will take place in the town centre on Sunday 20 November and will include arts, crafts, games and activities, fun fair rides, singers, special performers and a snowball arena The snowball arena is sponsored by Chiltern View Ice Skating.

The event will end with a light parade with LED drummers, Father Christmas and special guests will be announced soon.

The illuminated parade will begin at 5:30pm and the light switch on at 6pm will celebrate the start of the festive season.

Will the cost-of-living crisis affect the event?

We spoke to Tim Dixon, Mayor of Aylesbury who told us that the event will definitely go ahead but they are taking measures to reduce the costs.

For example, they will be using energy saving LED lights, Dixon tells us "We are conscious of making sure we are cutting as many costs as we can do, but still not taking away from the spectacle of the event...so it's still going to look absolutely amazing but it's being done in a sympathetic way"

Despite the cost-of-living crisis the council is determined to go ahead with the event because it is "normally quite a big event in the town" and they still want people to experience a parade that they will be "proud of".

He tells us they hope to continue hosting this event because "everybody wants Father Christmas to come to town".
