An Aylesbury panto has been cancelled for this year.

Queens Park Arts Centre have said that it's with 'a heavy heart' that they've postponed Peter Pan until 2021.

Theatre Manager Dario Knight said:

"Obviously it's with a heavy heart that we're postponing the show.

"However, having followed government guidance very carefully and carried out extensive assessments of our Limelight Theatre, we've concluded that moving the show to 2021 is the most responsible course of action in order to safeguard our audiences, performers and technical crew."

The Queens Park Pantomime has been a popular local event since 1984.

Last year's show - 'The Snow Queen' - broke box office records for the venue and 'Peter Pan' is set to be the Centre's most ambitious production to date.

Dates for the show have been revised for next year and all ticket holders are being contacted.

Dario added:

"Not everyone may know that it takes most of the year to create our panto.

"It's never a case of dusting off an old script and dragging the scenery and costumes out of storage - we start afresh every year and the construction / making process stretches from Easter all the way up to the end of the autumn.

"As well as safeguarding audiences, we also want to do justice to the creative talents of our performers and crew. Having only recently reopened the Centre, it would be a rush job with a lot of creative compromises to get ready in time, and that's not the Queens Park way!"

To mark the change of dates, a song from the planned production has been posted online alongside a montage of photos from Queens Park pantomimes over the last 36 years, and the Centre is still planning some seasonal entertainment for audiences.

"This year - more than ever - we want to do our bit of spread a bit of festive cheer.

"And though pantomime might take a little longer to come around again, we've got a very special surprise in store for audiences this December. Keep an eye out on social media for more news!"
