Aylesbury's MP demands urgent meeting with TSB
It comes after the bank announced plans to close Aylesbury's branch next April
Aylesbury's MP has demanded an urgent meeting with TSB, after the bank announced plans to close the town's branch.
The Aylesbury branch, which can be found at 1-3 Market Street, is planned to close on 19 April.
It is among 70 proposed branch closures across the UK next year as customers switch to online banking.
Rob Butler said it is a "bolt from the blue and very bad news for Aylesbury".
He continued:
"Local people need local banks.
"It is absolutely essential that TSB's customers continue to have access to all banking services and I am very concerned that they will now have to travel to High Wycombe.
"If this closure goes ahead, it is vital that staff are offered new roles that are appropriate for them.
"I am calling on the Chief Executive of TSB to meet me urgently to discuss this decision, which represents a real blow to Buckinghamshire's county town."
TSB said it will mean 150 fewer roles but that all staff who work at the closing branches will be offered alternative roles at the bank.
Chief customer officer Robin Bulloch said:
"Closing branches is an incredibly difficult decision to take, but we have to respond to the changes in the way people bank and provide the right mix of services for all our customers now and into the future.
"These changes allow us to maintain an extensive branch presence across the country.
"They are accompanied by a significant investment programme to upgrade branches to better suit customer needs.
"And, where it takes longer to get to the nearest branch, we will introduce more 'pop-up' services in communities."
