Aylesbury ducks to pay tribute to key workers
From frontline health staff to the 'neon army'.
An Aylesbury duck could be named after you, if you are a key worker.
The Town Council's looking for stories of amazing people who work in our health service, in our schools or in our shops.
Six painted ducks will then go on display around the town, dedicated to different key workers.
They will be on show around Aylesbury town from 5-13 December to represent those who have worked tirelessly this year through the pandemic.
The Town Council is welcoming nominations for six types of key workers who have gone above and beyond this year.
The categories are:
- Nurse/Caring Duck - this could be a nurse, doctor or care worker who worked on the frontline during the pandemic
- Transportation Duck - someone who has continued to get people from A to B whether it be by train, taxi, bus or tube
- Shopworker Duck - someone who has shined bright in our busy supermarkets and retail establishments
- Neon Army Duck - a refuse collector, a grass cutter, construction worker, anyone who works in high vis
- Delivery Duck - all those delivery drivers who dropped your at-home work out equipment, DIY materials or books you ordered online, you probably got to know them quite well, why not give them a nomination?
- Teacher Duck - a teacher who went above and beyond to continue to educate in these tricky times
Mayor of Aylesbury, Cllr Mike Smith, said:
"With our usual Christmas events being cancelled we wanted to bring something to the town that would spread joy and appreciation.
"The Aylesbury Key Worker Duck Trail will be a great chance for amazing local key workers to be recognised for all they've done for our community as well as providing a great festive activity for the whole family this December. I very much look forward to reading your nominations."
To nominate your Key Worker Hero and for them to be recognised by the Mayor of Aylesbury, nominations are now open until 5pm on Friday 27 November.
Entries will be judged by the Town Mayor.
