Aylesbury United fans charity walk raises over £1,200 while keeper is sent off for alleged ableist slur
In the game, their goalkeeper was sent off for an alleged ableist slur.
Aylesbury United fans have taken part in a 15 mile charity walk from Aylesbury to Leighton Town FC's ground in Leighton Buzzard.
They set off ahead of their game against The Reds yesterday (9th November).
The money raised will go to the club's charity partner, Youth Concern, an Aylesbury-based youth charity.
Their fundraising page says, "Not only will AUFC and its supporters raise money for Youth Concern, we will also raise awareness of the fantastic work the charity does supporting young people across Aylesbury Vale."
Last season, the club and its supporters raised over £2,500 for the same charity via their sponsored walk, a quiz night, and a raffle.
Since their charity partnership concept began, they've raised more than £13,000 for local charities involved.
Youth Concern help 13-25 year olds, but specialise in working with young people who face additional challenges including, but not limited to, those who are financially vulnerable, have mental health needs, homeless or at risk of homelessness, young carers, ‘looked after’ or affected by domestic/sexual violence or abuse.
They have a drop-in centre in Aylesbury which provides a range of activities and support.
However, the day was soured, after Aylesbury United's goalkeeper was sent off for an alleged albleist slur directed towards an opposition fan.
The Ducks were beaten 2-0.
Meanwhile, the club says they're investigating the incident involving keeper Jack Hopwood.
Regardless of the events that took place at the game, Aylesbury fans are being commended for their dedication to a local charity.
